Sam Allison Lecture and Book Launch



Sam Allison, historian and author of Driv'n by Fortune: the Scot's Rise to Modernity in America, 1745-1812, will be speaking in Winnipeg this month. 

Sam was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1968. After teaching high school history for many years, he then taught in McGill’s Faculty of Education. Sam has served on several committees for Quebec’s Ministry of Education, and has written educational books, articles, and websites. Married with two adult children, he lives in Brossard, Quebec.

There are two opportunities for members to hear him speak.


On Monday, March 21, Sam Allison will be speaking and signing his book,
Driv'n by Fortune: the Scot's Rise to Modernity in America, 1745-1812, at McNally Robinson in Grant Park.

Driv'n by Fortune

On Wednesday, March 23, Sam Allison will speak at a luncheon at the University of Winnipeg.  His talk, Fictionalizing the Facts: Sir Walter’s Scott-Land in the New World, is based on his book, but focuses on how fiction has coloured the written history of the Scots.

We will gather in The University of Winnipeg Club at noon on March 23rd. A cash bar is available, and lunch may be ordered a la carte.
